Voltage Dependent Anion Channel 2
From Anvita Health Wiki
Contents |
Function
- forms a channel through the mitochondrial outer membrane that allows diffusion of small hydrophilic molecules
- the channel adopts an open conformation at low or zero membrane potential & a closed conformation at potentials above 30-40 mV
- the open state has a weak anion selectivity whereas the closed state is cation-selective
- interacts with hexokinases ( putative)
Structure
- consists mainly of a membrane-spanning beta-barrel formed by 19 beta-strands ( putative)
- belongs to the eukaryotic mitochondrial porin family
Compartment
- mitochondrial outer membrane
Alternative-splicing
- named isoforms=3
Expression
- expressed in all tissues examined
More General Terms
- voltage-dependent anion channel
- phosphoprotein
- mitochondrial membrane protein
- transmembrane 19 protein
