Introduction

• Tradenames: Tiola. (alpha-mercaptopropionyl glycine)

Indications

• prevention of cystine renal stones in patients with severe homozygous cystinuria with urinary cystine > 500 mg/day resistant to treatment with high fluid intake, alkali, & diet modification or have had adverse effects with penicillamine

Dosage

• start 800 mg/day
• average effective dose is 1000 mg/day

• Tabs: 100 mg
