Indications

• replacement of sodium
• chloride-sensitive metabolic alkalosis
  

• Ophthalmic agent: (Adsorbonac)

• temporary relief of corneal edema

Dosage

• max 4.8 g/day
• parenteral nutrition 100-150 meq/day.
  

• Ophthalmic agent:

• 1-2 drops every 3-4 hours PRN
  

• 2% solution. 15 mL.

Adverse-effects

• thrombosis
• hypervolemia
• hypernatremia
• pulmonary edema
  

• Ophthalmic agent:

• burning & irritation

Mechanism-of-action

• Ophthalmic agent:

• draws water out of the cornea
