Introduction
- Tradenames: Salflex, Disalcid.
Indications
- temporary relief from minor aches & pains, fever & inflammation
- rheumatoid arthritis
- osteoarthritis
- lowers hemoglobin A1c in diabetes mellitus type-2 [4]
Dosage
- Tabs: 500, 750 mg.
Pharmacokinetics
- bioavailability is dependent upon dose form
- drug eliminated primarily by the kidneys
Adverse-effects
- common (> 10%)
- less common (1-10%)
- uncommon (< 1%)
- other
- may be associated with Reye's syndrome when used by children or teenagers with influenza or chicken pox
- does not appear to affect platelet aggregation
- drug adverse effects of NSAIDs
Drug-interactions

- increase clearance of salicylates
- may increase nephrotoxicity
- ACE inhibitors: decreased antihypertensive effect
- warfarin: minimal prolonged bleeding time
- salsalate increases methotrexate levels & possible toxicity
