Indications
- simultaneous immunization against mumps & rubella
- measles-mumps-rubella vaccine ( MMR) is the preferred vaccine for most children & many adults
Contraindications
- hypersensitivity to eggs or neomycin
- children < 1 year of age
- pregnancy
- immunocompromised individuals, except AIDS patients
- Caution:
- women should not become pregnant within 3 months of vaccination
- avoid immune globulin or plasma for 3 months
Dosage
- Jeryl Lyn (B level) mumps strain grown in cell cultures of chick embryos
- live rubella vaccine (Wistar 27/3 strain)
Adverse-effects
- most common (1-10%)
- febrile seizures, fever, soreness, burning, stinging, allergic reactions
Test-interactions
- temporary suppression of TB skin reactivity
