Indications

• simultaneous immunization against mumps & rubella
• measles-mumps-rubella vaccine ( MMR) is the preferred vaccine for most children & many adults

Contraindications

• hypersensitivity to eggs or neomycin
• children < 1 year of age
• pregnancy
• immunocompromised individuals, except AIDS patients

• Caution:

• women should not become pregnant within 3 months of vaccination
• avoid immune globulin or plasma for 3 months

Dosage

• Children > 15 months & adults: 0.5 mL SC
• Injection: 1000 TCID50 each of:

• Jeryl Lyn (B level) mumps strain grown in cell cultures of chick embryos
• live rubella vaccine (Wistar 27/3 strain)

Adverse-effects

• most common (1-10%)

• febrile seizures, fever, soreness, burning, stinging, allergic reactions

Test-interactions

• temporary suppression of TB skin reactivity
