Introduction

• The amyloid precursor protein (APP) may function as a kinesin-1 membrane receptor, mediated by binding of APP to the kinesin light chain subunit of kinesin-1. The APP- kinesin-1 interaction facilites fast anterograde axonal transport of a compartment containing several proteins.

• These include:

• APP beta-secretase
• presenilin-1
• GAP-43
• synapsin-1
• tyrosine kinase receptor A

• NOT included (transported by different mechanisms):

• synaptotagmin
• synaptophysin
