Introduction

• Recurrent atelectasis associated with isolated bronchiectasis of the right middle lobe of the lung.

Etiology

• compression of right middle lobe by lymph nodes
• acute angle of right middle lobe origin
• narrow opening of bronchus
• long bronchus
• lack of collateral ventilation

Clinical-manifestations

• recurrent bronchiectasis & atelectasis of right middle lobe
• many patients are asymptomatic

Radiology

• diagnosis is frequently made as incidental finding on chest X-ray
• band like opacity seen on lateral film extending from hilum to anterior chest wall at diaphragm
