Introduction
- A term originally in reference to putative phagocytes, destined for obsolescence replaced by the recognition of monocytes & macrophages.
- The RES includes:
- macrophages
- cells lining the sinusoids of lymphoid tissues
- fibroblasts of hematopoietic tissues
