From Anvita Health Wiki

More Specific Terms
Function
- vitamin K-dependent serine protease
- proteolytically inactivates coagulation factors: factor Va & factor VIIIa
- stimulates fibrinolysis
- activity is enhanced by protein S
- cleavage of factor Va by activated protein C occurs at amino acid residue 506, the site of factor V Leiden mutation
Expression
- plasma activity may be reduced as a result of acute thrombosis
- anticoagulation lowers activity of protein C in plasma.
Pharmacology
- recombinant activated protein C, see drotrecogin alpha ( Xigris)
More General Terms
Additional Terms
- coagulation cascade
- drotrecogin alpha (Xigris); recombinant protein C, activated
- protein C deficiency
- protein C in plasma (protein C assay)
- protein-C (autoprothrombin IIA)
- protein-C inhibitor or plasminogen activator inhibitor-3 (PAI3)
