• actin-rich adhesion structures
• formed in cells that need to cross tissue barriers, such as macrophages & monocytes, or cells such as osteoclasts that remodel tissue
• podosomes are short-lived & do not cause major degradation of the extracellular matrix
• TRIP10 involved in formation
