Introduction
- Tradename: Elidel.
Indications
- topical agent for treatment of mild to moderate eczema
- atopic dermatitis [3,5]
Dosage
- apply BID
- Elidel: 1% pimecrolimus
Adverse-effects
- may cause feeling of skin warmth or burning, esp in 1st few days
- photosensitivity (use sunscreen)
- increased risk of skin cancer [4,6]
- drug adverse effects of immunosuppressive agents
Mechanism-of-action
- non- steroid topical immunosuppressive agent
- suppresses release of cytokines from T-cells & mast cells
- IL-2 inhibitor ?
