Indications

• pressure ulcers
• diabetic ulcers
• burns
• traumatic wounds

Dosage

• (application)
• apply a thin layer of phenytoin powder directly to wound QD & cover with a sterile bandage
• mix the contents of a 100 mg phenytoin capsule with 5 mL of sterile saline; soak gauze in it & place over the wound change dressing daily

Pharmacokinetics

• very little absorbed

Mechanism-of-action

• promotes wound healing
• enhances synthesis of collagen
• promotes growth of fibroblasts
• related to effects on gingival hyperplasia
