Introduction

• A disorder of the foot in which the longitudinal arch of the foot is accentuated.

Etiology

• commonly associated with neurological disorder

Pathology

• excessive pressure is usually placed on the metatarsal heads
• atrophy of the plantar fat pad & displacement of the metatarsal heads increases pressure on the metatarsal heads

Clinical-manifestations

• higher than normal arch of the foot

Complications

• predisposition to foot pain & foot ulceration

Management

• orthotics
• referal to podiatry or orthopedics for surgical options
