Introduction
- A disorder of the foot in which the longitudinal arch of the foot is accentuated.
Etiology
- commonly associated with neurological disorder
Pathology
- excessive pressure is usually placed on the metatarsal heads
- atrophy of the plantar fat pad & displacement of the metatarsal heads increases pressure on the metatarsal heads
Clinical-manifestations
- higher than normal arch of the foot
Complications
- predisposition to foot pain & foot ulceration
Management
- orthotics
- referal to podiatry or orthopedics for surgical options
