• diagnosis of cytomegalovirus ( CMV) infection

• body fluids

• whole blood ( ACD or EDTA)
• serum
• urine
• saliva

• tissue
• store whole blood at 4 degrees C
• store tissue at -20 degrees C or below

Notes

• optimal PCR conditions utilize primers to conserved region of the CMV major immediate-early gene
• a quantitative PCR protocol has been described
