Indications

• hyperlipoproteinemia type 5
• promoting weight gain afer surgery, chronic infection or trauma
• relief of bone pain associated with osteoporosis

Contraindications

• carcinoma of the prostate
• hypercalcemia ( anabolic steroids may stimulate osteolytic bone resorption)
• pregnancy
• nephrosis/nephrotic phase of nephritis

Dosage

• 2.5 mg BID- QID

• Tabs: 2.5 mg

Monitor

• liver function tests
• lipid panel
• complete blood count

Adverse-effects

• peliosis hepatis
• cholestatic hepatitis
• hepatocellular neoplasms with long-term use
• skin: acne
• hair: hirsuitism & male balding pattern in females
• premature closure of epiphyses in children
• habituation
• nausea/vomiting
• polycythemia
