Introduction

• Tradename: Omacor, Lovaza ( FDA-approved in 2004)

Indications

• hypertriglyceridemia (only FDA-approved)
• may reduce risk of recurrent heart attack [4]

Dosage

• 4 g/day

• Capsules: 1 g, 65 mg of EPA & 375 mg of DHA
• Lovaza contains 840 mg omega-3 fatty acids/ capsule [7]

Adverse-effects

• large doses may inhibit platelet function & possibly cause bleeding
• mix-ups with Amicar
• may increase LDL cholesterol
