Function

• seeems to be involved in transcriptional regulation
• DAXX seems to regulate transcription in PML nuclear bodies together with transcription factor PML & may influence TNFRSF6-dependent apoptosis
• role in checkpoint responses upon DNA damage [3]
• heterochromatin remodelling in G2 phase [4]

Structure

• diameters between 0.2 & 1 mm
• number & size change during the cell cycle
• electron microscopic analysis show that the nuclear body is shaped like a doughnut

• discrete nuclear speckles containing transcription factor PML along with other proteins, which were originally identified as autoantigens in primary biliary cirrhosis patients
