Function

• catalytic component of the active enzyme, which catalyzes hydrolysis of ATP coupled with the exchange of Na+ & K+ ions across the plasma membrane
• action creates the electrochemical gradient of Na+ & K+ ions, providing the energy for active transport of various nutrients
