Function

• mediates voltage-dependent K+ permeability of excitable membranes
• opened or closed conformations in response to voltage difference across the membrane
• K+-selective channel through which K+ may pass in accordance with electrochemical gradient
• channel activity is up-regulated by cAMP
• homotetramer
• interaction with KCN4B/ POMP is necessary for modulation of channel activity by cAMP

Structure

• N-terminus may be important in determining the rate of inactivation of the channel while the tail may play a role in modulation of channel activity &/or targeting of the channel tospecific subcellular compartments
