Introduction

• Premature termination of pregnancy with loss of fetus.

Complications

• medical & surgical abortion have similar risk for subsequent adverse pregnancy outcomes
• venous thromboembolism
• hemorrhage
• sepsis
• shock

Management

• 3 office visits required
• 1st visit: 3 mifepristone tablets
• 2 days later, 400 ug of buccal misoprostol [3]
• doxycycline 100 mg PO BID [3]
• follow-up after 2 weeks to confirm termination of pregnancy
