Indications
- pancreatic cancer in the head of the pancreas
- chronic pancreatitis
- assessment of upper abdominal pain
Procedure
- a tube in passed through the nose into the duodenum under fluoroscopy
- glucagon or a parasympatholytic agent ( anticholinergic agent) is administered to minimize intestinal peristalsis
- barium is then administered through the catheter
- a few images ( X-rays) are taken & some of the barium is withdrawn & air injected into the duodenum
- additional images are obtained
