Introduction
- Oxygen at greater than atmospheric pressure that can be applied either to the whole patient inside a pressurized chamber or to a localized area (such as an arm or leg) inside a smaller chamber.
Indications
- poisonings, drug overdose (potentially of benefit
- carbon monoxide
- cyanide poisoning
- hydrogen sulfide
- brown recluse spider bite
- acetaminophen poisoning
- non healing diabetic foot ulcer (convered by Medicare) [2]
Contraindications
- caution:
- heart failure
- COPD
- concurrent antineoplastic agent(s)
Procedure
- treatment applied in chamber for 1.5-2 hours/day for 20-40 days
