Function

• glycosylation
• catalyzes formation of some glycolipid via addition of N-acetylgalactosamine ( GalNAc) in alpha-1,3-linkage to some substrate
• the glycolipids may serve for adherence of some pathogens
• in contrast to its mouse or canine ortholog, does not mediate formation of Forssman glycolipid ( Forssman antigen), which does not exist in human
