Etiology
- (Epidemiology)
- Rotavirus
- Adenovirus serotypes 40 & 41
- children younger than 2 years old
- infections occur all year round
- Caliciviruses cause infection in persons of all ages
- noroviruses ( Norwalk virus) cause epidemic outbreaks
- sapoviruses (Sapporo virus)
- Astrovirus infects primarily infants, young children, & the elderly
- most active during the winter months
Clinical-manifestations
- vomiting
- watery diarrhea
- abdominal pain
- dehydration
- fever
- headache
- generally 1-2 days in duration, but may last up to 10 days
