• membrane- cytoskeleton-associated protein that promotes the assembly of the spectrin- actin network
• binds to calmodulin
• sumoylated

Structure

• heterodimer of an alpha & a gamma subunit
• comprised of three regions:

• N-terminal protease-resistant globular head region
• a short connecting subdomain
• a protease-sensitive tail region

• belongs to the aldolase class II family, adducin subfamily

Compartment

• cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, cell membrane
• peripheral membrane protein; cytoplasmic side

Alternative-splicing

• named isoforms=2 additional isoforms seem to exist

Expression

• heart only expresses isoform 1
