Functional Electrical Stimulation

Introduction
- Bursts of electrical stimulation applied to the nerves or muscles affected by a stroke, with the goal of strengthening muscle contraction & improving motor control. Lower intensities ( transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, or TENS) are also used for pain control.
