• Infection of the eye.

Etiology

• the terms ocular herpes, keratomycosis, trachoma, hordeolum refer specifically to infections of the eye or eyelid
• the terms conjunctivitis, keratitis, optic neuritis, scleritis & uveitis refer to inflammation for which infection is one etiology
• the term orbital cellulitis refers to infection of the orbit
• retinitis results from infections of the retina
