Introduction
Indications
Dosage
- injection SQ weekly (cost $14,000/year)
Monitor
- platelet count monthly for 1st 3 months, then every 3 months
- monitor with immunosuppressive agents
- platelet count monthly for 1st 3 months, then every 3 months
Adverse-effects
- thrombocytopenia
- complications of immunosuppression
- infection [4]
- necrotizing fasciitis
- tuberculous pneumonia
- bacterial sepsis with seeding of distant sites
- severe pneumonia with neutropenia
- worsening of infection (e.g. cellulitis, pneumonia) despite antimicrobial treatment
- viral meningitis
- invasive fungal disease
- progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy
- immune-mediated hemolytic anemia [4]
- life-threatening infections, including [5,7]
Mechanism-of-action
- monoclonal antibody: blocks T-cells
