Etiology
- gastrectomy with or without vagotomy
- rapid gastric emptying of a large osmotic load into the small intestine
Clinical-manifestations
- abdominal discomfort, nausea/vomiting ~ 15 minutes after eating
- vasomotor manifestations occur later within 90 minutes
Management
- 6 small meals/day, high in protein, low in refined carbohydrates
- avoid liquid with meals
- pectin
- anticholinergic agents
- ephedrine
- subcutaneous octreotide in refractory cases
