Pathology

• stress & depression can provoke detrimental behaviors

Complications

• 
  
• disease interaction(s) of depression with anxiety

Management

• cardiac rehabilitation & exercise can dimimish depression & improve fitness & function
• antidepressant may be indicated

• SSRI: sertraline & citalopram are 1st line
• bupropion, mirtazapine & trazodone: less evidence for safety & efficacy in cardiac patients
• SNRI may increase blood pressure & heart rate
• tricyclic antidepressants may worsen outcomes

• cognitive behavorial therapy in addition to antidepressant may be better than antidepressant alone
