Introduction

• Tradenames: Temovate, Clobex, Galderma.

Indications

• short term treatment of inflammatory dermatoses
• psoriasis

Dosage

• (topical)
• 0.05% cream/ointment/spray/scalp application QD/ BID
• up to 2 weeks of therapy
• maximum: 50 g/week
• avoid application of occlusive dressing to the site(s) of clobetasol administration

• Solution: (0.05%) for scalp 25 & 50 mL. Cream (0.05%) 15 & 30 g.
• Gel: (0.05%) ( propionate): 15, 30 & 45 g.
• Spray: (0.05%) (Clobex, Galderma) 2 oz

Adverse-effects

• not common (1-10%)

• skin irritation, dryness, erythema, pruritis, papular rashes

• uncommon (< 1%)

• acneiform eruptions, hypertrichosis, hypopigmentation, perioral dermatitis, skin maceration, skin atrophy, striae, miliaria

• other

• suppression of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis
  
• drug adverse effects of glucocorticoids
• drug adverse effects of immunosuppressive agents

Mechanism-of-action

• high-potency corticosteroid
