Introduction
- Scar or scar tissue.
Etiology
Clinical-manifestations
- generally start out slightly raised, but flatten & fade within a year
- may be erythematous
- may be hypopigmented
- may be hypertrophic
- destruction of hair follicles
Management
- silicone gel sheets used by plastic surgeons
- less evidence for effectiveness of silicone bandages
- no proof Curad Scar Therapy helps
- Eucerin maybe helful
- Duoderm may be helpful
- topical vitamin E NOT useful; may cause dermatitis
- topical glucocorticoids NOT useful
- intralesional glucocorticoid injections may be useful
- Mederma NOT useful
