Introduction

• Scar or scar tissue.

Etiology

• trauma
• inflammation

Clinical-manifestations

• generally start out slightly raised, but flatten & fade within a year
• may be erythematous
• may be hypopigmented
• may be hypertrophic
• destruction of hair follicles

Management

• silicone gel sheets used by plastic surgeons
• less evidence for effectiveness of silicone bandages
• no proof Curad Scar Therapy helps
• Eucerin maybe helful
• Duoderm may be helpful
• topical vitamin E NOT useful; may cause dermatitis
• topical glucocorticoids NOT useful
• intralesional glucocorticoid injections may be useful
• Mederma NOT useful
