Introduction

• Tradename: Peridex.

Indications

• antibacterial dental rinse for treatment of gingivitis
• soap for eradication of MRSA

Dosage

• swish 15 mL undiluted oral rinse around in mouth for 30 sec, then expectorate
• do NOT swallow
• use twice daily in the treatment of gingivitis
• precede use by brushing & flossing

• Solution: 0.12% with alcohol 11.6%. (480 mL)

Adverse-effects

• staining of oral surfaces
• change or reduction in taste
• FIRE risk ??

Mechanism-of-action

• binds bacterial cell wall resulting in altered osmotic homeostasis & cell death
