Introduction
- The head of the caudate is continuous with anterior putamen. It swings above the putamen & curls posterior over the putamen & thalamus, caudally posterior to the thalamus, then curls anteriorly below the thalamus & putamen to merge with the amygdala. (see Grants Atlas image GA406004) Grants Atlas images GA407001 ( axial section) & GA407003 ( coronal section) show relationship of the caudate & lentiform nuclei to the cerebral ventricles, centrum semiovale, internal capsule, thalamus & other structures.
