Epidemiology

• now infrequently done due to availability of computed tomography ( CT)

Indications

• structural or functional abnormalities of the larynx, trachea, &/or bronchi, including:

• bronchiectasis
• hemoptysis
• tracheoesophageal fistula
• neoplasms
• chronic pneumonia
• chronic bronchitis

Procedure

• radiographic studies of the tracheobronchial tree following administration of a radiopaque material, generally an iodinated compound in a viscous suspension
