Function

• binds to TGF-beta
• possible role in capturing & retaining TGF-beta for presentation to signaling receptors
• interacts with TCTEX1D4
• extensively modified by glycosaminoglycan groups ( GAG)
• membrane bound & soluble forms with opposite effects on TGF-beta signaling; membrane bound form enhances TGF-beta binding to TGF-beta receptor complex; soluble form inhibits TGF-beta action
• membrane bound betaglycan also can inhibit activin signaling by forming complex with inhibin & ActRIIB
