Etiology
- present in 70-80% of patients with CREST syndrome
- present in 1% of patients with diffuse scleroderma
Principle
- originally detected by immunofluorescence microscopy with the antigen localized to the region of condensing metaphase chromosomes
- routinely detected via immunoblots
- centromere antigens consist of three proteins, of 16, 80 & 120 kD MW.

- test is performed using cell lines such as Hep2
