Introduction

• Also see andropause, hypogonadism.
  
• In women:

Clinical-manifestations

• diminished sense of well-being
• persistent & unexplained fatigue
• decreased libido

Laboratory

• normal serum estradiol
• diminished serum testosterone (AM measurement)

• free testosterone diminished

• serum LH & serum FSH to distinguish primary from secondary androgen insufficiency
• serum prolactin to assess pituitary disease

Complications

• increased risk of cardiovascular disease

Differential-diagnosis

• depression
• hypopituitarism

Management

• androgen replacement recommended for symptomatic patients only

• testosterone
• Estratest (women)

• screening not recommended [3]
