Indications

• treatment of acne vulgaris

Contraindications

• Warnings:

• patients with sunburn should not use adapalene until full recovery
• do not apply to lips, eyes, mucous membranes

• pregnancy-category C
• safety in lactation ?

Dosage

• cleanse area prior to application
• allow skin to dry 20-30 minutes
• apply QHS in a thin film

• Gel 0.1%
• Patient instructions:

• minimize exposure to sunlight
• avoid washing face more than 2- 3 times/day
• discontinue use temporarily if irritation occurs
• avoid using topical alcohol preparations during treatment
• wash hands thoroughly after application

Adverse-effects

• common (> 10%)

• erythema, scaling, dryness, pruritis, burning

• uncommon (< 1%)

• skin irritation, stinging sunburn, acne flares

Drug-interactions

• concurrent use of any other topical agent that may cause local irritation may result in additive drying effect
